About

Jo Grant completed a Bachelor of Arts (Photograhy) at RMIT in 1993 and holds a Master of Visual Art from Griffith University, Queensland (2004). Her practice as an artist began with photography and her work has been exhibited widely in galleries and institutions across Australia. Her photographic work is represented in collections such as State Library Victoria, Griffith University and Art Bank. She is represented by M.33 in Melbourne and in 2012 published a photographic monograph titled, All Prize Winners Paraded

In the last few years she has transitioned to other mediums, experimenting with fibre, mixed media, painting and installation. In all of her work Jo makes observations of the intimate details of life. After living in Melbourne and Brisbane for 15 years, Jo moved to the south west Coast of Victoria nine years ago.

I work a lot with found materials and recycled papers from my large collection of second hand stuff, incorporating watercolour paintings and sometimes collage to communicate a piece. My work relies soley on my observations with a healthy dose of childhood memories of living around nature and animals and ordinary details of life. I hope my work connects to the audience's own memories and natural inclination to want to be close to nature and its gifts.
